Mansard Loft Conversions
The mansard is the maximal conversion: the roof slope is rebuilt at a near-vertical angle across the full width of the house, creating the biggest and most room-like space a loft can give.
Where a dormer adds a box, a mansard re-imagines the roof — a steep 72° face, usually to the rear, with windows built in as dormers. The result reads as a proper storey: flat ceilings, full-height walls, space for two rooms on wider houses.
Because the roof profile changes so much, mansards almost always need planning permission, and they reward houses where the extra investment matches the street — Redland, Clifton, Southville terraces among them. We handle the structural rebuild, and the design is prepared with our partner architects where drawings are needed.
