Garage Conversions in Bristol

The most cost-effective room your house can gain is probably full of boxes right now.

Get an itemised quotefrom £10,000 + VAT

Most Bristol garages store everything except a car. Converting one is the most cost-effective extra room in the book — from £10,000 plus VAT for a single integral garage, usually without planning permission, done in weeks not months.

A garage conversion is deceptively technical for its size: the floor needs insulating and usually raising, the walls need lining and damp protection, the big door opening becomes a properly founded wall with a window, and the whole thing must pass building control as habitable space. Done right, you cannot tell the room was ever a garage. Done badly, you can feel it every winter.

Typical uses we build: home offices, playrooms, snugs, utility rooms and downstairs bedrooms with en-suites for multi-generational living. Attached and integral garages convert under permitted development in most cases; we confirm yours at the first visit.

Asked and answered

The questions this page usually raises.

Do garage conversions need planning permission?

Usually not for attached and integral garages — it is internal alteration plus a new wall in an existing opening. Detached garages, conservation areas and homes with planning conditions on parking can differ; we check before you commit.

How long does it take?

Three to five weeks on site for a straightforward single garage, longer where plumbing for an en-suite or utility is involved.

Will it feel like a proper room?

That is the whole test. Insulation to current standards, matched flooring levels, a proper window and heating sized for the space — the result should be indistinguishable from the rest of the house.
